No Treat For Tigers
10/31/2006 - by Mitch Hammond
On Friday October 27, one of the areas largest rivalry games took place between the Dayton Green Devils and the Bellevue Tigers. This highly anticipated game pinned the playoff-bound Green Devils against the disappointing Tigers.

The Devils wasted no time getting points on the board with a deep pass on the first play of the game. Bellevue responded with a touchdown of their own, tying the game 7-7 at the half.

Late in the fourth quarter, Tiger halfback Justin Ross took a leap into the end zone, putting the Tigers ahead. With a missed extra point, the Devils saw themselves down 13-7.

Dayton Quarterback Chris Hightchew looked poised during their two-minute drill. Dayton drove down the field and ended the drive with a passing touchdown. With another missed extra point, the game was being sent into overtime.

The Devils were on offense first, and scored rather quickly taking the lead 20-13. The Tigers had a bit of trouble getting into the end zone on their possession, but managed to score on a passing touchdown by quarterback Roger Babb. Instead of going for the tie and forcing double overtime, Bellevue Coach Dave Eckstein elected to go for the two-point conversion. The handoff to Ross came up just short, giving the Devils the 20-19 victory and bragging rights for the next year.

The game on Friday night was no treat for the Tigers. Dayton will travel to Beechwood next week for the first round of the playoffs.
