NewCath Wins and Coach Schneider Ties Record
9/3/2005 - by Nathan Eten
It was a great night for football in Union, KY, as the Ryle Raiders hosted the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds. Ryle was looking to get their first win of the season after losing to Glen Este last week 42-12.

The Breds got off to a good start on offense by scoring first on an 11 yard from quarterback Sam Diehl. Diehl would strike again with 8:46 in the second quarter, delivering another TD pass, this time a 4 yard throw to running back Michael Vicars. Vicars, however would have a hard time running the ball on the ground for Newcath, who only gained 123 yards on the ground.

Now it was Ryle's turn to score. That was just 20 seconds after the Newcath touchdown. On a great throw by QB Jordan Brady, an athletic Tyler Madlom would pull it in for six to get Ryle on the board. Ryle wasn't finished either, a quarter later it would be running back Scott Gray with a 2 yard TD.

This game was close all the way until the end. After a 22 yard run by a scrambling Sam Diehl the Breds took the lead 18-13. Ryle would answer back with a nice field goal by kicker Ross Uminger to allow Ryle to get within 2 points of NewCath.

Ryle's offense was threatening after a penalty against NewCath when Jordan Brady would throw a misguided pass right into the hands of a NewCath linebacker. The linebacker would take this one to the endzone for a drive and game killing TD. However, it was not over for Ryle. Moments later Brady would throw one up for his guy, Scott Gray, who came down with the ball for a 59 yard TD making score 25-23.

It would stay that way until the end of regulation. NewCath was able to hold on to the ball and kill the clock, but this game was good until the last snap. NewCath with this win goes to 3-0 on the season and Ryle goes to 0-2.

Other stories that surrounded the game was a major injury to NewCath's Adam Pangallo, who suffered a broken leg early in the second quarter. The WR told our own Seth Millhoan that he was in a little pain, but optimistic.

This also was a big night for NewCath coach Coach Bob Schneider. Coach Schneider ties the all-time wins record for the state of Kentucky with 292. He was awarded the game ball after the game by the Ryle team captains. Congratulations to Coach Bob Schneider! Next week he will try to eclipse the record held by Joe Jaggers.
