Rebels Run Past Greenwave
9/12/2005 - by Jake Donelan
Florence, KY- Boone County sophomore quarterback Cory Farris proved very quickly that he deserves some respect.

Farris is among the state AAAA leaders in rushing but some criticism surrounded the beginner’s luck. “Some people didn’t really believe that I can run like that,” Farris said. “I just shrug it off and go out and play as hard as I can.”

Farris entered the game with 215 yards on just 28 carries. He added 165 yards on 14 carries against the visiting Meade County Greenwave defense.

Over half of his yardage came on just the second play from scrimmage and only forty seconds into the game as Farris took the shotgun snap and completed a draw play for an 85-yard touchdown run.

In the Rebels next series, Farris accomplished something that he was unable to do in twelve attempts on the young season, complete a pass. Farris hit senior wide receiver Kyle Lightner near the Rebels sideline for a 7-yard completion.

He had 5 completions in the contest but also threw two interceptions. It was obvious this was only Farris' third time playing quarterback in a regular season game.

"He's been a running back all of his life," Rebels' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gary Schrader said. "It's my goal to make a quarterback out of him."

Fellow sophomore Kyle Arey added 55 yards and two touchdowns to the Rebels ground attack. Arey’s touchdowns were the only points for the Rebels in the second half.

The Greenwave offense was a day at the beach for the Rebels. Junior linebacker Rob Domaschko surfed his way to a game high 12 tackles including one sack. Junior defensive back Chris Brison added 10 tackles and senior Justin Citrone had 7 tackles, 3 of which were sacks to round out the defense for head coach Rick Thompson’s defense.

The defense forced a total of 6 sacks of Meade Co. quarterback J.L. Cannady for negative 30 yards.

Next week the Rebels open up conference play when the Simon Kenton Pioneers visit Owen Hauck Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled 7:30.
