NKY Baseball in Full Swing
4/20/2011 - by Marlon Bray
The 2011 high school baseball season has gotten off to a slow and wet start. Many games have been moved or cancelled due to the weather but regardless baseball is in full swing. For the most part the preseason coaches’ poll has been spot on as the season has heated up.

Preseason #1 Beechwood (15-3) is off to an impressive start making it to the championship game of the 9th Region All A Tournament. NewCath (10-3) knocked off Beechwood to claim the All A 9th Region Championship, after beginning the season ranked #2. Atop the 9th Region sits Covington Catholic (11-1) whose only loss came against Dixie. The loss seems to have motivated CovCath who are winners of their last 8. Preseason #4 Dixie (6-5) has struggled in the first half of the season with only one of their five losses coming against a top 10 team (Beechwood).

Rounding out the preseason top 5 is Holy Cross (8-4). The Indians have struggled against top 10 teams, which account for all four of their losses. In the 10th Region Brossart (12-5) is off to a hot start. The Mustangs romped surprise team Calvary Christian (8-3) in the 10th Region All A Championship 15-2. Thus far the season has been action packed despite the weather. As teams near the second half of the season they will begin to show if they are postseason contenders or not.
