MUSTANGS COME THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH, BEAT CAMELS 61-47
12/10/2005 - by Nathan Eten
Alexandria, KY - Everyone in Campbell County was ready for another edition of this rivalry game between the Brossart Mustangs and the Campbell Co. Camels, but only one team would come out victorious in this one. After a snowy Thursday night, it was time to get this one underway from the Campbell Co. Middle School.

Early in the game the Camels received great play from their Senior, Brett White who had 4 of the 11 points put up by the Camels in the 1st quarter. The Mustangs had a rough time scoring in the beginning, due to the tough defense of the Camels. The basketball was moving back and forth up the court, but no points were going on the board. Soon enough though Brossart would fix that problem. Their scoring was halted early due to the fact that their big man, Troy Cooper was out of the game with two early fouls. Cooper would come in later and pay big dividends for the 'Stangs. His substitute, Kyle Lubbers would have a good game, but the 'Stangs needed Cooper in the game. At the end of the 1st it was all Camels.

Not much would change in the 2nd quarter as the Camels still kept the lead. White would add a couple more FG's to his statbox and the Camels were off to a good 2nd quarter start. The Mustangs would get some much needed scoring from their other big man, Nate Mutsch, who had 7 of his 13 points in the 2nd quarter. Cooper, who came back in the 2nd added 5 points, he would end up with 14. The Camels were playing well, but that would come to an end fast. At halftime it was 23-20, Camels.

The tables would turn in the 3rd, as Brossart came out gunning. The Camels tried to put a full-court press on, but the 'Stangs execute the press break perfect and the Camels were playing catch up the rest of the night. The Mustangs would push the ball down the floor and pickup the easy bucket every time. In the third quarter the 'Stangs would rip off a 22-2 run and the Camels had no answer. The player of the quarter was Adam Franzen, who had 7 of his 10 in the 3rd. Franzen came through in the clutch when he knocked down a huge 3-pointer, a jumper, and another bucket for his team. The Camels only scored two points in the third quarter due to the hard nosed defense by the 'Stangs.

So, the Stangs had a comfortable lead and would hang on to it the rest of the game. What seemed close in the beginning became a Brossart route. The Camels could not put the basketball in the bucket. White scored 12 points in the 4th, but most of them would come on the reserves for the Mustangs. Cooper had a great 4th putting up the rest of his points, 9, in the 4th quarter. Another Mustang who played well was Jimmy Uebel who scored 9 points in the game for the 'Stangs. Campbell Co. struggled the rest of the fourth and were unable to make the points up. The final score at the end of regulation was 61-47 in favor of the Green and White. Campbell Co. will have to wait until next season's version of the Crosstown Showdown to see if they are able to beat the Mustangs.
