Dawgs look ferocious, beat Holy Cross 56-29
1/10/2006 - by Nathan Eten
Covington, KY - On Saturday evening two teams got together, but this was no ordinary game. It was a rivalry game between the Holmes Bulldogs and the Holy Cross Indians. There are only a couple of miles that separate the two schools and after the end of regulation tonight, the Indians saw the Dawgs' outscore them by a mile.

The game started off with a lot of intensity as the gym was full of Holmes Bulldog fans. As Holy Cross tried to get their post game set up it didn't take long before Holmes started to run away with the ball. The Dawgs would force turnover after turnover in the first quarter to get out to an early lead. The Indians would fight, they were led by Steenken, who scored 9 of his 11 points in the first half. Holmes on the other hand was led in the first half by the athletic Austin Hill and his contribution of 8 points in the first half. Holmes dominated the glass throughout the game and defended every shot that the Indians put up. Indians fans grew frustrated because their team simply could not score on the Bulldogs. The defensive effort by Holmes was tremendous. At the end of the third quarter the game was far away from the Holy Cross Indians 40-22.

Things wouldn't get much better for the Indians in the 4th either. The game got further and further out of reach for the red and black. They struggled from the field all night long and had a hard time hitting open shots. Their guards Ryan and Busse would add 10 points for the Indians, but that wouldn't be enough. The Bulldogs guards outscored their duo by five points. Duran Jefferson had 12 points total and Nate Edmondson would contribute a three point field goal for his team. The athletic abilities of Holmes was too much for the Indians to handle in this game. Arrez Henderson would rack up 7 points and foward Greg Rice would put 11 in the scoring column for the Dawgs. The final score would resemble how the game was played and would show who the dominate team was. The last showing on the scoreboard was 56-29, Holmes would improve to 7-3 and their next opponent is Campbell County. The Indians would fall to 6-4 and their next opponent will be Lloyd.
