Thomas More Football Coach Ties Record for Most Wins at School

With the 20th-ranked Thomas More College football teamís 66-27 win at Thiel College last Saturday, head coach Jim Hilvert tied Vic Clark for most wins by a football coach at the school.

The win was Hilvertís 61st on the Saints sidelines and tied Clark, who was the programís first head coach, serving from 1990-1998. Dean Paul ranks third with 40 wins from 1999 to 2003 and Mike Hallett is fourth with 15 wins from 2004-2006.

Hilvert, who is in his eighth season on the sidelines in Crestview Hills, has earned three Presidentsí Athletic Conference (PAC) Coach of the Year honors, while coaching 43 first team All-PAC players, five All-Americans and five PAC Players of the Year.

During the 2011 season, he guided the Saints to their highest ranking in school history when they received 805 votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top-25 poll and were ranked No. 6 in the nation after week four. The Saints also had a 6-1 record in the Bridge Bowl against across-the-river rival Mount St. Joseph University, in Hilvertís seven seasons as Thomas More head coach in the rivalry game.

Thomas More is among the top winners in NCAA Division III football over the past 25 years.

The Saints will try to give Hilvert his 62nd career win to move him into first alone on Saturday when they host Westminster College in their 2014 home opener at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills.
