Football Playoffs: Newport, New Cath Advance; Season Ends for Scott, Ludlow
Bryan Burke - The River City News
Newport 45, Galltin Co. 6

Newport advances to the second round of the playoffs after easily handling Gallatin County, 45-6, at home on Friday night.
The Wildcats executed well all night on both sides of the ball as they only turned the ball over once and had very few penalties called on them.
“It was a complete game,” Newport head coach Matt Schmitz said of his team's performance.

The scoring for Newport began right away as quarterback Paul Price hit Brian Burton in stride on a long pass down the sideline that gave the Wildcats an 8-0 lead on their first possession.

Gallatin County took over and moved the ball down the field with some consistency on their first series, driving as far as the Newport 10-yard line. It turned out to be the team's most meaningful drive of the evening but still did not result in points after they failed on fourth down.

Newport running back Tyree Bolden then took a hand off 63 yards for a touchdown simply running past everyone to the outside and breaking loose down the sideline.
Once the defense returned to the field on the next series, Newport defensive back David Lynam sniffed out a screen play, picked off the pass and returned it 30 yards for an easy touchdown. The score then became 22-0, still in the first quarter, and the route was on.

Gallatin County compounded their troubles by throwing a deep interception on the following possession. The Wildcats then made them pay for their mistake with a 20-yard touchdown pass to running back Dominic Joseph who broke a tackle on his way to the end zone.
