Scott, Campbell County Advance to 10th Region Semifinals
Alex Valentine - The River City News
Scott High School’s mental toughness was put to the test in the first round of the 10th Region tournament, as they tried to rebound from the 70-26 thrashing they took at the hands of Campbell County in the 37th District Championship. Scott answered the bell, however, with a convincing 70-49 win over the champions of the 40th District, Paris High School.

Paris faced an early 12-4 deficit in their first regional tournament appearance since the 2002-2003 season. Scott cashed in on three early three-pointers as a result of crisp ball movement on offense.

Paris cut the lead to 15-10 by the 1:30 mark of the first quarter, but on the next defensive possession, junior forward and leading scorer Koebe Garrard was whistled for his second foul. Garrard is the offensive catalyst for the Greyhounds and his absence was felt on both ends of the floor.

Paris attempted to force the issue on offense, resulting in several second quarter turnovers, especially when trying to feed the ball into the post. By the time Garrard checked back into the game at the 4:30 mark of the second quarter, Scott’s lead had grown to 23-10.

Garrard picked up his first points of the night at the foul line at the 4:20 mark, but was whistled for an offensive foul less than a minute later. Scott held a 29-16 lead at halftime. The Eagles held Paris to just 25% shooting from the field in the first half.
